The watercolor drawing series “Inventario” features plastic bottles in variations of blue, grey, brown and green. Are they submerged in water or floating on its surface remains a mystery. They are presented without context in the middle of a blank page, as relics or apparitions.
The artist was inspired by the tradition of bottles at sea which, in the past, contained a message and were thrown by some shipwrecked trying to rely on the providence of the sea currents to be rescued. The artist, as usual, mixes pencil drawing and watercolour to signify a dialogue between past and present with a universal story, that of bottles at the sea, which she associates with today’s information network. It expresses the fact that between yesterday and today, despite technology, nothing has changed. Messages can be lost or found and this in the same way: it is the fruit of chance, their circulation depended yesterday on sea currents, today computer algorithms.
This series evokes the shipwreck of our civilization: more than 60% of biodiversity has been lost in 40 years despite the messages transmitted every year by many scientists but which are lost in the waves of the news. However, hope is still there and new bottles are launched regularly.
