Point de liaisons, 2012. icon

Points de liaisons is a series of collages of green or multicolored buttons on white or black paper. The buttons draw organic shapes. They connect then disperse, group together and separate to reconnect.

The series has its origin in the family story of the artist, who created two boxes of buttons, one green, the other multicolored, from the former workshop for children’s clothing of his maternal grandparents. Their factory had to close its doors during his adolescence following the French textile crisis.

The artist questions the relationship between interior (self) and exterior (world) through this button, an instrument of back and forth between a self and the world that it is up to us to understand and control in order to survive, adapt to its evolution, become resilient.

The series presents the first "self-portrait" of the artist created using the technique of dripping via a release of buttons stuck by the artist where they fell, and "the 4 ages of life" that Romain Arazm revisited.

Excerpt from the artist’s diary

BIRTH, ORIGIN, RAW MATERIAL, USE, DEVELOPMENT, APPROPRIATION, REAPPROPRIATION, TRANSMISSION, RECYCLING, CREATION, RENAISSANCE...

magical because it connects the outside to the inside or the inside to the outside, I never know... The button appears to me as an instrument of balance, since it provokes dialogue. A dialogue between an 'I' and 'the world', between myself and the other therefore, and which questions me on the relations resulting from this dialogue. Interior, exterior – inside, outside. The button becomes the central piece of a communication, a connection point...
